Why stop-start batteries cost more
Cars with stop-start technology switch the engine off at every set of lights and restart it when you move. That's thousands of extra engine starts a year — far more than a standard battery can handle. Stop-start cars use either an EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) or an AGM battery built to take that load.
Fitting a cheaper standard battery to a stop-start car is a false economy: it usually fails within 6–12 months and can stop the stop-start function working at all.
